Since Monday, June 3, is a public holiday, all banks and post offices will be closed from Sunday until Tuesday. As a result, welfare or pension payments scheduled for Monday, June 3, will be paid earlier on Friday, May 31.
For those who usually receive payments by cheque on Monday, June 3, the cheque will be sent out a day early, so it should arrive by Friday.
Child benefit payments due on Tuesday, June 4, should not be affected, but some recipients might receive their €140 monthly payment early, possibly on Friday or Saturday.
A Department of Social Protection spokesperson confirmed: “Monday, June 3, is a Bank Holiday, so any social welfare payments due on that day will be paid on Friday, May 31. Payments will be made as usual on Tuesday, June 4. All Intreo Centres and Branch Offices will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday and will reopen on Tuesday.”
Additionally, most employees are given paid leave on Monday. If you qualify, you are entitled to one of the following:
- A paid day off on the public holiday
- An additional day of annual leave
- An extra day’s pay
- A paid day off within a month of the public holiday
Part-time employees are entitled to a day’s pay for the public holiday if they have worked at least 40 hours in the 5 weeks before the holiday and if the holiday falls on a day they normally work.
