On November 29th, we will head to the polls in one of the most significant general elections in modern history. For 100 years, Fianna Fáil (FF) and Fine Gael (FG) have dominated Irish politics, and yet, here we are, grappling with crises in housing, healthcare, education, and the cost of living. Scandal after scandal has plagued their governments, from gross overspending on projects like the National Children’s Hospital to prioritizing bike sheds and modular homes over the fundamental needs. These missteps have left thousands without homes, families struggling to afford childcare, and patients languishing on waiting lists for vital healthcare services. Two Choices: More of the Same or Real Change
It’s clear: Ireland cannot afford another term under FF and FG. Yet, unless the electorate unites behind a real alternative, this is exactly what we will get.
The Cost of “More of the Same”
FF and FG have proven incapable of solving the housing crisis, which has worsened year after year. Families are priced out of the market, renters face astronomical rates, and homelessness is at an all-time high. Meanwhile, our healthcare system remains in shambles. People in urgent need of care are ignored, waiting lists are unbearably long, and overcrowding in hospitals has become the norm.
On top of this, our education system is strained to breaking point, with underfunded schools and inadequate resources for students and teachers alike. Families across the country are grappling with rising costs of living, with little to no meaningful intervention from the government.
This isn’t just poor governance—it’s negligence. And for all their talk of change, FF and FG remain committed to protecting the status quo. The only way to break this cycle is to vote for real change.
The Real Choice: Sinn Féin
Sinn Féin is the only party large enough to lead an alternative government and has presented robust plans for housing, healthcare, education, and childcare. Their housing strategy prioritizes building affordable homes and tackling the spiraling rental market head-on. Sinn Féin’s healthcare plan emphasizes investing in services, cutting waiting lists, and ensuring everyone has access to quality care. Their education policies aim to create a system that supports students, teachers, and families alike, while their childcare proposals focus on reducing costs and supporting working parents.
This isn’t just a vision; it’s a plan rooted in addressing the real challenges facing ordinary people. Sinn Féin has shown a commitment to creating a fairer Ireland, one that works for the many, not just the few.
The Risk of Divided Votes
While smaller parties and independents may seem like an attractive option, the reality is that voting for them often results in maintaining the current FF/FG dominance. A fragmented vote allows these two parties to form yet another coalition government, locking us into more of the same failed policies and continued crises.
To achieve real change, we need a government led by Sinn Féin, supported by progressive parties like People Before Profit (PBP) and the Social Democrats (SD). By giving Sinn Féin your first preference vote, and PBP and SD your second and third, you can help create a coalition that represents the change Ireland desperately needs.
The Stakes Couldn’t Be Higher
This election is about more than just policies—it’s about the future of our country. It’s about deciding whether we continue down the same path of inaction and waste, or whether we embrace a new direction that prioritizes housing, healthcare, education, and the well-being of all citizens.
Not voting or voting for independents risks giving FF and FG yet another opportunity to form a government and maintain the status quo. But by uniting behind Sinn Féin and their progressive allies, we can finally bring about the change Ireland needs.
On November 29th, the choice is clear. Do we settle for more of the same, or do we demand a better Ireland? Vote Sinn Féin No. 1, People Before Profit No. 2, and Social Democrats No. 3. Let’s seize this moment and create a government that works for everyone.
The future of Ireland is in your hands. Make it count.
