The Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD, has announced that Friday, June 7th, 2024, is the polling day for the European Parliament, local, and Limerick mayoral elections. Polling will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on that day. Make Sure You’re Ready to Vote on June 7th!

European Parliament Elections:

  • The Minister has appointed Barry Ryan as the chief returning officer for the European Parliament elections.
  • Returning officers have been appointed for the three European Parliament constituencies:
    • Mr. Fergus Gallagher for the Dublin constituency (4 seats).
    • Ms. Marian Chambers Higgins for the Midlands-North-West constituency (5 seats).
    • Mr. Martin Harvey for the South constituency (5 seats).

Nominations for Candidates:

  • Public notice of the times for receiving nominations and application requirements will be given by returning officers for the European constituencies, local authorities, and the Limerick mayoral election.

Voter Registration:

  • To be eligible to vote, you must be 18 years of age or over on or before polling day and be ordinarily resident in the constituency in which you wish to vote. You must also be included on the Register of Electors.
  • Check that your details are correct and up to date at www.checktheregister.ie.
  • Eligible voters not on the register, or needing to update their details, can do so by:
  • Completed applications must be received by the registration authority for your area by Monday, May 20th, 2024.

Postal and Special Voters:

  • If you’re eligible to vote by post, or unable to vote in person due to illness or disability and are not on the Postal Voters List or Special Voters List, you can apply for inclusion in those lists by Saturday, May 11th, 2024.
  • Application forms are available from City, County, or City and County Councils and online at www.checktheregister.ie.

Election Posters:

  • Candidates can erect election posters from May 8th, 2024, which is 30 days before the polling date.
  • There’s a requirement for candidates to remove all posters within 7 days of the poll.
