An online forum has been uncovered where thousands of images of women and girls across Ireland – including minors in school uniforms – were shared without their knowledge or consent. Some images were accompanied by misogynistic abuse, sexual threats, and even calls to “trade” photos for gratification.
💔 Victims were often named and located by county, with school names, ages, and photos posted publicly. Some images were clearly taken without the person’s knowledge, including women simply walking or getting into cars.
🔴 This took place on Reddit in a now-banned Irish-themed group with over 3,200 members. Some users claimed to still be in school themselves. One user even requested “stories” about girls as young as 15 or 16.
🚨 The Rape Crisis Network Ireland has urged Gardaí to investigate immediately. While the group has now been removed by Reddit, questions remain about why it took nearly a year to ban, and whether gardaí are doing enough.
🛑 This is not the first time such abuse has happened. A similar case was exposed in 2020, involving tens of thousands of non-consensual images. Yet, to date, no prosecutions have followed, and officials previously claimed “no formal complaints” had been made.
📣 We need stronger protections, real investigations, and accountability for platforms that enable this abuse. Women and girls should not have to fear being secretly photographed and exposed online.
👉 Share this to raise awareness. Parents, teachers, and young people must be alert – especially about the risks of posting photos online, even in private groups.
What Can You Do to Stop This?
If you believe your image has been shared without your consent, report it immediately to Gardaí (or PSNI in the North). Even if you’re unsure whether it breaks the law, it’s important to file a report — this builds pressure for action. You can also contact the Rape Crisis Network Ireland or Victim Support for guidance.
To protect yourself, review your social media privacy settings. Avoid posting images where your location, school uniform, or workplace is visible. Sadly, even private accounts can be screenshotted or accessed by others — so be cautious about who follows you.
If you see these types of images or comments online, report the content to the platform (Reddit, X, Instagram, etc.) and take screenshots before it’s removed. You can also alert watchdog groups like the Victims Alliance or CyberSafeKids.
Finally, speak out. Raise awareness, talk to your teens, and challenge anyone you know who shares or laughs at this behaviour. Laws alone won’t fix this — changing the culture starts with calling it out.
If you’re affected, you are not to blame. The abusers are.
