€450 Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit is a new payment system for those who become unemployed on or after 31 March 2025, replacing the current Jobseeker’s Benefit. Here’s a summary of the important points about the scheme:
Eligibility
You qualify for Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit if:
- Your last day of employment was on or after 28 March 2025.
- You are fully unemployed.
- You are under 66 years of age (or under 70 if born after January 1958 and not claiming your State Pension).
- You are capable of and available for full-time work.
- You have enough paid PRSI contributions in Classes A, H, or P.
Key Points:
- Payment Duration: Depending on your PRSI contributions, you can receive payments for up to 26 or 39 weeks.
- 5+ years (260+ contributions): Up to 39 weeks
- 2–5 years (104–259 contributions): Up to 26 weeks
- Payment Rates: The amount is based on your previous earnings, up to a maximum rate:
- 5+ years: 60% of earnings (up to €450 for the first 13 weeks, then 55%, then 50%).
- 2–5 years: 50% of earnings (up to €300 for 26 weeks).
- Minimum Rate: €125.
- Taxation: You may be liable to income tax on the payments. Tax is not deducted at the time of payment but will be reported to Revenue.
Qualifying PRSI Conditions
To qualify, you must meet these conditions:
- 104 PRSI contributions at Class A, H, or P.
- 4 PRSI contributions in the 10 weeks before application.
- 26 PRSI contributions in the 52 weeks prior to unemployment.

Other Information
- Redundancy Payments: Getting a redundancy payment does not affect your eligibility for Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit.
- Breaks in Claim: If you take a break from your claim (e.g., for part-time work), your claim may pause but resume if you return to unemployment within 13 weeks.
This scheme aims to offer more support to those who have paid PRSI contributions by linking payments to previous earnings, providing a smoother transition during periods of unemployment.
